The Narcissist’s Playbook Anthology – Nutshell Media Group

“We want to bring narcissistic abuse out of the shadows with stories of experiences, healing, and renewal. Although fiction is a powerful way to connect with readers, this anthology will focus on truth told through essays, poetry, reported pieces, and creative nonfiction. “

Blank Spaces – Canadian Literary Magazine
“The mission of Blank Spaces is to celebrate and champion the work of Canadian creatives, bringing exposure and support to artists in every stage of their career. We are seeking flash fiction (under 1000 words), creative non-fiction, and poetry from diverse Canadian writers for our premiere issue. If you are passionate, attentive, and wholeheartedly invested in your craft and in presenting your best face to the world, we want you on our team! Because that’s what we are: a team. Whether you’re from Newfoundland or the Yukon or anywhere in between. We are in this together. We are here to hold one another up. Together, we will fill in the gaps with our heart-rendered stories and our colourful spirits.”

Life in 10 Minutes – Life in 10 Minutes

“Welcome to Life in 10 Minutes, featuring creative nonfiction and poems that are raw, heartbreaking, funny and true, that read like dreams unfolding or a secret letter found, that come from the heart and the gut before being filtered through the head and the hand, that are lifted from life or experience or memory. Stories and poems that are all written in about 10 minutes. In the spirit of Life in 10 Minutes, do not edit the life out of your writing. Let it rip. Tell it like it is. Speak to us. Invoke a feeling. Tell the truth. Tell your truth. Dig deep and then dig deeper. Start in the present moment and wind your way backwards through time. At the end of 10 minutes, write for 10 minutes more if you feel called to do so. Travel through the labyrinth until you find yourself at its center. Write for as many ten minute segments as you’d like. Now, find the piece that catches your breath, holds your heart in your throat, raises the hair on the back of your neck. Find the piece that contains something true, something you can’t live without. Now edit it as you see fit.”

Parent To Parent – Chicken Soup For The Soul

“We look at this book as kind of a support group for parents, whether you are trying to solve a problem or figure out how to teach good values to your children. These stories will show you the way other parents dealt with issues and what worked… and what didn’t. We know you will find many helpful suggestions and valuable tips on parenting in this book.”

Themed Issue: Food – Room Magazine

“Writers and artists, share with Room your work that tell stories related to food—cooking, farming, hunger, consumption, digestion, eating, and not eating. Editors Kayi Wong and Rose Morris are looking for poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, and art that explores food in all its glory and complexity for Room issue 40.1, which will also feature work by Marilyn Dumont.”

Hidden Lives: Coming Out on Mental Illness (2nd Edition) – Brindle & Glass

“Hidden Lives: Coming Out on Mental Illness was successfully released in 2012 by publisher Brindle & Glass will be re-released as a 2nd edition in spring 2017. We are looking for three additional creative nonfiction/personal essays written by writers domiciled in the United States that address experiences with mental health issues. We seek a variety of work that will speak to all aspects, including direct experience from those who have received a diagnosis, as well as the experiences of spouses, siblings, and children. Writing from more than one family member would be of interest, especially if it rounds out the view. We are not looking for therapeutic accounts from therapists, nor do we seek prescriptive essays of the self-help variety. By mental health issues we refer to some of the more extreme diagnoses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, severe depression, and autism. We recognize that many people suffer with depression and addiction, but at this time we are not seeking writing on these topics unless they are part of a dual diagnosis, or in the case of depression have resulted in psychosis or other extreme manifestation.”

Curvy & Confident – Chicken Soup For The Soul

“Women come in all shapes and sizes. We’re all beautiful and the key is to be fit and healthy within the body type that we were issued at birth. Our new book is all about body image, self-esteem, and feeling comfortable within our own skins. We want to stress the mind + body + spirit connection, the rational consumption of foods that we like (no stringent dieting) and the pursuit of exercise that makes us feel happy and connected to the wonderful machines that are our bodies.”

Stories About Teachers and Teaching – Chicken Soup For The Soul

There isn’t a single one of us who doesn’t owe something to a teacher. They are the unheralded heroes of society. Tell us your stories about the great teachers who changed your life. And if you’re a teacher, tell us about the kids who changed yours, who motivated you to keep on teaching, who showed you that it was all worth it. We’d love to share your best advice with other teachers as well—what works, what doesn’t, how you stay enthusiastic about your jobs. What advice do you have for your colleagues? Tell us the funny stories too—we know you have lots of those.

Blended Families – Chicken Soup For The Soul

Are you part of a blended family, enjoying stepchildren, stepsiblings, etc.? Blending two families after a second marriage can be a real joy… and sometimes a challenge too. Tell us about your own blended families. How did you make it work? What advice do you have for other families? We are looking for true stories about all aspects of blending families—stories that will make us laugh and cry, nod our heads in recognition, and give us great advice. Tell us about your kids if you’re a parent, your parents if you’re a kid, your pets, whatever you think would enlighten and entertain someone else in the same situation.

Rookie Mommies Raising Boys: A Collection of Hilarious & Heartfelt Stories With Tips & Tricks to Survive Raising Boys – Morgan Lewis Starr

Please submit a “hack” to accompany your story that has some kind of relevance.”

Off the Rocks: An Anthology of GLBT Writing – NewTown Writers

“NewTown Writers Press is delighted to announce that our annual print publication, Off the Rocks: An Anthology of GLBT Writing, is now accepting submissions for Volume 20. Off the Rocks publishes poetry and prose (fiction and nonfiction) by the GLBT community and its advocates. Unsplatterpunk Special – Theaker’s Quarterly Fiction

“If ever there were a subgenre that demonstrates the idiom, “Don’t judge a book by its cover,” unsplatterpunk is it. Unsplatterpunk offers the same vile ingredients of splatterpunk, literature’s most extreme progeny, with one exception: somewhere within all that nastiness, unsplatterpunk offers a message that promotes virtue.”

Roads Less Travelled – Little Fiction Big Truths

“…this will be our first anthology dedicated exclusively to diverse writers and their stories. Sponsored by The Festival of Literary Diversity (aka, The FOLD), ROADS LESS TRAVELLED will be a fiction and nonfiction anthology of stories that often go untold. But that we all need to hear. The road can be any kind of journey — a life experience that details a metaphorical path, or a fictional story about a road trip. Or vice versa. We want to know about the paths that are unique to your life (your struggles / your joys) or the lives of your diverse characters.”

Under My Thumb: The Songs That Hate WomenAnd The Women That Love Them – Repeater Books

“Under My Thumb: songs that hate women and the women that love them will be a study of misogyny in music through the eyes of women. It will bring together stories from music writers and fans about artists or songs they love despite their questionable or troubling gender politics, as well as looking at how these issues intersect with race, class and sexuality.”

The Kindness of Strangers: A Wising Up Anthology – Wising Up Press

“When and where in your life have you experienced the kindness of strangers? When have you demonstrated it? Why? How did you respond to the experience at the time? What sense do you make of it now? How has the experience shaped—or reshaped—your view of the world and of your place in it?”

Chronic Illness Truths – Julie Morgenlender

It will offer comfort to those who feel alone and it will offer insight to those whose loved ones have chronic illnesses. It will discuss both the big pictures and the tiny details that we encounter every day.”

Book Proposal: Writing Pittsburgh – In Fact Books

“One of the books in the Writing Pittsburgh series will be a single-author book-length work of creative nonfiction with a significant connection to contemporary Pittsburgh. This book could be a work of immersion journalism, a memoir with a strong connection to the present, a collection of essays, a series of profiles, a travelogue … or something else! The only real limitations are that the work must be nonfiction, have a strong Pittsburgh element, and appeal to a broad national audience.”

Stories About Cats – Chicken Soup For The Soul

“We are working on and collecting stories and poems for another wonderful book about our cats. We love stories about our cats and the amazing and magical things they do. We rejoice in their simple absurdities, funny habits, and crazy antics. Our cats make us smile and laugh every day, but sometimes they really outdo themselves. Whether they came up with the idea themselves, or you put them in a situation that caused them to do something unusual, we want to hear about it!”

Writing for Animals Nonfiction Anthology – Ashland Creek Press

“We seek articles from authors and educators about the process of writing about animals in literature.* Our focus is on including a mix of instructional and inspirational articles to help readers not only improve their work but be inspired to keep at it…*Please note that this is a collection of instructional articles about the craft of writing. We will NOT be publishing animal stories or personal essays, only articles that deal specifically with the art and craft of writing about animals.”

All About The Breakup

“This is an unusual book project: Thousands of love letters have been compiled and published into hundreds of books, but little has been published on the ways we break up. We think this is weird, considering how many of us have some award-winning break-up stories. So we want to include YOUR experiences of when relationships went sour: from saying “it’s over, John” in red lipstick on his bathroom mirror, to when your boss asked you to stay late again, and something in you just snapped…”

Our Stories of Strength Anthologies

This series includes a long list of book topics covering a wide range of autoimmune disorders, genetic conditions, mental & emotional health topics, autism and more. “Living with a chronic, often invisible, illness is hard. At Our Stories of Strength, we bring positive, good-news accounts into focus.”
